Manufacturing Engineer

Murray Myers are very pleased to be recruiting for 2 x Manufacturing Engineers for a client based in Wolverhampton.

The manufacturing engineer has a dual role:
1. To provide manufacturing technical knowledge and instruction from the design stage to the completion of manufacture including feeding information into the design team for DFM and to make available new technologies and capabilities.
2. To seek, facilitate and achieve directly improvements to processes, which could include investment, creating the business case for that demonstrating the resulting change to: productivity, efficiency, quality or other gain is justified. Further to eliminate waste wherever it may exist and always seek to improve visibility of operations.

Key Activities/Decision Areas:-

  • Instruct the most efficient method of manufacture of components and assemblies. Ensuring safety, the correct quality requirements are meet and using the in-house planning and route card system
  • Generate manufacturing documentation in the form of manufacturing inspection and test plans (MITP,) issue route cards containing clear manufacturing instructions. When generating route cards accurate timings for manufacturing activities are to be included
  • To be involved during design to review drawings and plans to ensure they are able to be produced effectively and reliably contain the correct instructions for manufacture in the most productive way.
  • Input, sanitize, control and update the manufacturing data in the in-house production control and MRP systems.
  • To identify waste (lean definition) and non-value adding activities seeking changes to eliminate or at least minimise it at every stage in the manufacturing process from design to despatch. Documenting these activities throughout.
  • Be able to undertake a make / buy assessment based on cost, in house capability, resource availability, schedule requirements and quality requirements
  • Support the tendering process as required, including development of manufacturing strategies.
  • Raise NCR's and contribute to closing out NCR's when activities and process do not conform using analytical methods such as the 5 Why's, DMAIC and root cause analysis to further continuous improvement
  • Update and follow through manufacturing drawing, documentation and quality updates

Essential role related knowledge, technical skills, qualifications and experience

  • At least 5 years industrial experience in working in a manufacturing role gaining knowledge in machining and/or welding in a lean environment.
  • Of graduate calibre.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes - must include at least two of:

1. Machining
2. Mechanical assembly
3. Welding
4. Electronic / electrical assembly

  • In-depth knowledge on a variety of different welding processes. How each process affects different materials and how you can prevent distortion and weld defects.
  • Knowledge of the inspection processes and how designs affect the accuracy, time scale and expected results, be able to read and interpret engineering drawings providing detailed instructions for manufacture and procurement.
  • Provide purchasing with clear instructions of what materials and parts to buy, to be able to manufacture a component or assembly to the correct quality requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clear written and verbal instructions to all manner of people of various knowledge basis.
  • Work in an organised methodical manner to review designs and offer advice on improved manufacturability
  • Produce detail manufacture instructions for planners, operators, inspectors and quality engineers to follow.

You must be a UK national or have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of five years and must meet the eligibility criteria to gain security clearance.
