Building Maintenance Engineer

An organisation in Hounslow requires an experienced Building Maintenance Engineer to provide a building support service at their main office facility to cover planned and preventative maintenance, under the direction of a manager, for a 3 month contract, with potential to extend.

This is a full-time role (36 hours per week) working weekdays, although you may be asked to help in the evenings/weekends if necessary to cover absences and special events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety equipment and building fabric. Maintaining formal logs for review by FM and H&S staff and escalating concerns immediately.
  • Diagnosing issues in building services, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions promptly.
  • Responding to urgent maintenance requests and providing timely resolutions during critical situations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment manuals, and inventory.
  • Supporting an appropriate 'out of hours' responsive reactive maintenance service covering key buildings; working in conjunction with the FM Staff to address issues that arise.
  • Supervising and controling a wide range of approved contractors at an operational level; organising site visits, site access, health & safety, permits to work, work quality, and completion of service visit sheets and confirm agreed service specifications have been followed.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in maintaining and repairing HVAC, plumbing, electrical and building fabric
  • C&G/NVQ in Mechanical/Electrical.
  • A knowledge of current health and safety and fire safety regulations/legislation.
  • Experience of maintenance practise in a similar large building and an ability to recognise and diagnose likely areas of weakness and equipment failure.
  • Hands-on experience of inspecting and operating fire safety systems and the ability to accurately check operational status and involve technical staff.
  • Knowledge of systems such as HVAC, CAFM, Dali, BMS, and fire safety.
  • Experience of working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments involving a range of different teams and frequent conflicting demands for support.
  • Experience of working on own initiative and prioritisation of work to meet deadlines in a busy office environment.
  • Evidenced ability to plan, organise/prioritise own workload and provide cover for team colleagues when required
