Customer Quality Engineer

Gap Personnel (operating as an employment business) are currently recruiting for our client in Wolverhampton as a Customer Quality Engineer. The role is a permanent role for the right candidate.

Hours of work:

Monday - Thursday - 8:30am - 4pm

Friday 8:30am - 1:30pm

Pay

Between £35,000 and £40,000 per annum dependent on experience

Description and key responsibilities as a Customer Quality Engineer:

  • Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system (IATF16949/ISO9001)
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process or system and providing feedback.
  • Data collection activities to define issues and drive improvements.
  • Lead quality-related issues with for internal, supplier and customer concerns.
  • Ability to lead customer facing activities, in particular concern reviews and responses.
  • Lead problem solving activities using a methodical process.
  • Stop production in the event of unacceptable products or processes.
  • Support with scrap and RFT initiatives and identify ways to drive improvements and reduce costs, identify best practices that emphasise defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and that also provide for continuous improvements to meet or exceed all customer expectations.
  • Conduct first off / last off sample approvals and have a working knowledge of the application of SPC and MSA principles.
  • Identify root cause and instigate permanent corrective actions for product quality issues using proven methodology such as 8D and supporting tools.
  • Ensure Control Plans, PFMEA's and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained.
  • Support the internal audit program, with layered process audits, product and process audits.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing systems and processes.
  • Working knowledge of welding, metal pressings and laser cut parts.
  • Ability to use measurement equipment.
  • Ability to read Engineering drawings and Control Plans.
  • CMM application and CMM programming knowledge advantageous, (but not essential).
  • Knowledge of quality systems, gauging and close tolerance measurement.
  • Support all necessary activities to ensure a robust Quarantine process and system is in place.
  • Support maintenance of the calibration system, ensuring all equipment is correctly calibrated.
  • Assist NPI team with new product introduction and supporting activities.
  • Participate in the development and refinement of Design and Process FMEA's (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and have a technical mindset to review and identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Support Change Management activities and coordinate any associated reviews and activities.

Qualifications and skills required as a Customer Quality Engineer:

  • A professional qualification
  • Proven experience in fast paced manufacturing organisation.
  • Proven problem solving ability using known methodology (i.e. 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawaetc.).
  • Proven audit experience, good working knowledge of IATF16949 and VDA standards.
  • Proven knowledge of core tools (including MSA, SPC & ISIR) and GD&T principles is essential.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Awareness of six sigma techniques beneficial.
  • Understanding of quality systems.
  • Understanding of auditing with a process and risk based approach.
  • Knowledge of measurement methods and techniques using equipment.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances.
