Behaviour Support Assistant needed at Secondary Alternative Education Provision in Old Trafford that caters for young people with Social, Emotional or Mental Health difficulties (SEMH).

Our client, a Secondary Alternative Education Provision in the Old Trafford area for students with SEMH needs, is a growing provision looking for experienced people to hit the ground running and start making an impact from the get-go.

The right person for this role will need to be adaptable, resilient and able to persevere with their students through their obstacles and challenges over the long term in order to progress.

Role: Behaviour Support Assistant at Secondary Alternative Education Provision in Old Trafford.
Location: Trafford
Start Date: September 2024
Contract: Temp to perm for the right person.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm.

Pay: Up to £100/day DOE for first 12 weeks.

Equal pay to permanent staff in similar roles from 13th week onward, on a pro-rata daily rate basis.

Paid PAYE via Tradewind. We don't use third party umbrella payroll companies!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 academic, emotional & behavioural support to students aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional or Mental Health needs (SEMH) and challenging behaviours.
  • Some of the students are Looked After Children, Non-Attenders or on phased re-integrations to school.
  • Holistic yet flexible approach needed that starts by building strong, honest, transparent and trusting relationships with pupils in order to combat the difficulties they face that include social & emotional needs.
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning plans, tailored to individual students' requirements.
  • Foster a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging students' engagement and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to develop effective strategies and interventions.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young adults that display challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Resilient, patient, empathetic and a compassionate approach to support vulnerable learners.
  • Candidates with a background as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Residential Support Worker, Mental Health practitioner, Outeacher Worker, Pastoral Support Worker, Learning Mentor, Learning Support Assistant or Youth Worker will be considered.
