At the IET, making our world a better place starts by creating a better place for our people. At the IET you'll have more than just a job. Our work is exciting and challenging, connecting the people who solve the problems that matter. It means working with us has real meaning and impact, and you'll grow - professionally and personally - in ways you never thought possible. We're also making significant investments in our people, including providing a modern, vibrant workplace and embracing hybrid working.

What you'll be doing

Join our dynamic Business Performance Team as a Trainee Accountant, where you'll dive into a wide range of financial activities. From supporting crucial month-end processes to delivering insightful analysis that drives key business decisions, you'll play a vital role in shaping our organisation's success.

You'll collaborate closely with teams across the company, ensuring they have the financial insights and support needed to achieve their objectives. This is not just a job—it's an opportunity to grow. Alongside a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive CIMA study support package to help you fast-track your career.

As part of our team, you'll gain hands-on experience working with senior stakeholders both inside and outside the Finance Department, all within an organisation that uniquely combines charitable values with commercial ambitions. If you're eager to learn, grow, and make a real impact, this is the perfect role for you!

What we hope you can bring to the role

We're looking for a Finance or Business graduate—or someone with equivalent experience—who's ready to take their numerical reasoning and critical thinking skills to the next level. If you have a knack for analyzing and interpreting data to create reports that drive decision-making, we want to hear from you. Your attention to detail and accuracy will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of our financial information.

You'll thrive in this role if you're proactive and eager to build relationships across the organisation, working closely with various teams to understand and meet their financial needs. While experience with financial systems is a plus, we'll ensure you have all the training you need to succeed. If you're strong in Excel, especially with advanced functions, you're already one step ahead.

We'd love to get to know you

Is Imposter syndrome creeping in? Don't worry - we'd rather hear from you this time than not hear from you at all! Read on for a little more information about the role; but also, keep in mind that we're open to discussing flexible ways of working, including reduced hours and working in an agile way, supported by a hybrid working framework that allows you to find the best place to do your best work.

A little more about the role

  • Assist in the month-end and year-end processes, including the preparation and processing of accruals and prepayments, ensuring all accounting entries are accurate and complete.
  • Provide detailed analysis to support financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, helping the organisation make informed decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance our financial processes and systems, contributing to the ongoing refinement of our operations.
  • Ensure the accurate recording and management of business data, providing teams with the financial information they need to succeed.
  • Partner with various teams and stakeholders across the organisation, supporting them through financial processes and helping meet key deadlines.
  • Participate in maintaining and improving financial systems, ensuring their effective and efficient use in reporting and planning cycles.

A little more about what we're looking for

  • A Finance or Business graduate, or similar related discipline, with strong numerical reasoning and critical thinking skills gained through either degree studies or experience;
  • Precision and accuracy in handling financial data, ensuring reliability in reports and analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex functions, to support data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in analysing and manipulating data to produce insights that inform business decisions.
  • Proactive in engaging and collaborating with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Experience with a core financial system is advantageous, but full training and support will be provided.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and organise workload effectively to deadlines.
