The Role – Senior Transport Planner:

Hammond Transport are actively looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join their friendly team in Billericay, Essex.

As Senior Transport Planner you will be a key member of the planning team and responsible for overseeing and supporting the operation of the Transport Desk ensuring its efficient, safe, and legally compliant. This means that resources are successfully managed, managing resources effectively and maximising revenue whilst minimising costs.

It is essential for this position you hold transport industry experience, have excellent communication skills with effective interpersonal skills as well as the capacity to operate independently in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities - Senior Transport Planner:

  • Managing the route planning process of Dedicated deliveries and ensuring all are successfully completed.
  • Planning loads and routes that are commercially beneficial including protecting timed deliveries and AM services, ensuring all are commercially beneficial.
  • First point of contact for drivers and ensuring drivers are dispatched to the delivery in a timely manner.
  • Support and assist in the planning and tracking the fleet general activity, including managing discrepancies to maximise revenue.
  • Continually reviewing plans to ensure they are efficient and cost-effective.
  • Working closely with our team, and gaining their knowledge in order to maintain an effective and seamless operation.
  • Managing accurate ETA's and daily PODs ensuring any repeated issues are dealt with.
  • Ensuring all runs are issued and drivers depart in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Health, Safety and Quality Management.
  • Responsibility for ensuring drivers legal compliance is adhered to on drivers' hours, defect reporting and tachograph rules.
  • Must be able to get the most out of each vehicle and make sure we deliver to a high standard.

Person Specification - Senior Transport Planner:

  • Previous experience as a Senior Transport Planner within the Transport & Logistics Industry.
  • Completing admin, organising, coordinating, and planning of transport activities.
  • Handling customer and supplier enquiries and providing quotes.
  • Liaising with drivers and routing vehicles across the UK.
  • Working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Maintaining and continually improving the strong customer relationships and our excellent service level to enhance performance.
  • Responding to telephone calls and emails in a timely manner, providing a friendly and supportive service.
  • Working closely with current and future customers, avoiding empty running and to generate work.
  • Taking out of hours calls week on week off (very rare to get calls, these are mainly for emergencies).
  • Inputting work and maintaining data on our Transport Management System.
  • Driver de-briefs and customer contact.
  • Operational admin and ad-hoc transport duties as required.
  • Experience in organising and scheduling drivers effectively based on their workloads and jobs.
  • A good understanding of HGV vehicle sizes, payload, and usage.
  • To be cheerful and happy to work within a team or as an individual with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Good planning and geographical knowledge essential.
  • IT literate, confident working with a TMS system, Word, Excel, Outlook and emails.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and at peak times under pressure.
  • Able to generate extra work when required.
  • Must have own transport.
