Head of Operations

We have an urgent requirement for a new Head of Operations to join an award winning UK wholesale distribution firm and take operational responsibility for their Berkshire depot, employing circa 350 employees with a multi-million pound turnover.

The Head of Operations will have full accountability for the site's operation, development and will ensure it meets all of its varied operational and commercial targets. This will be done by leading, developing and engaging a large team in sometimes challenging circumstances. The successful candidate will need to explore and drive opportunities within the depot and marketplace to develop commercial advantages for the client, also by influencing peers or direct reports to adapt to new ways of working so to achieve those commercial gains.

This role will naturally require more presence on the site (Slough) than remote working but offers the successful candidate a salary up to £85K, car allowance & attractive benefits package but more importantly it is a brilliant opportunity to join a genuinely people-centric operation in a busy, exciting and hugely successful wholesale business and play a key role it's future successes. As such it will suit someone who lives within a realistic commute to Slough who has a background in wholesale/distribution/FMCG/supply chain type operations. Candidates with immediate or short notice periods will be preferred.

With the Operations Manager, Warehouse Manager, Transport Manager, Customer Services and Site Excellence Managers reporting to and supporting you, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Manage the commercial operation of the depot to ensure the profit budget target is met or exceeded.
  • Manage the depot management team to drive operational efficiencies, service excellence and productivity in order to deliver a profitable service to customers and meet KPIs.
  • Demonstrate the expected behaviours and standards of a people leader to recruit, engage and develop the capability of our people and generate the right customer service culture for our business.
  • Support and work with the sales teams in order to ensure the development and retention of accounts and maximise the commercial opportunities available.
  • Manage the relationships with the Central departments to enhance internal service standards and facilitate service through to the customer.
  • Ensure that good management practice and all processes are followed in order to ensure the health and safety of our employees and customers.
  • Oversee that all legal regulations and company standards are adhered to at all times to ensure the compliance of the depot.
  • Ensure that the Company Health & Safety Policy and Company Risk Assessments are effectively implemented and the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditation is fully supported at site level.

Essential Experience to be Considered:

  • Evidence of being able to run a commercial operation effectively including sales and the management of the salesforce.
  • Experience and understanding of the wholesale distribution market place and running a distribution environment.
  • Effective track record of people management and leadership.
  • IT literacy.
