Director of Operations – £80-£100k per annum – Home based, with travel to clinical sites as required.

The Role

We are a clinical trial site, conducting virtual and decentralised clinical trials, seeking an ambitious Director of Operations to support the scale-up of our growing team.

In this role, You'll oversee all aspects of VCTC's day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with our strategic goals. This includes leading cross-functional teams, optimising performance, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. Initially offered as a 6-12 month fixed-term contract, with a 35-hour working week, the position has the possibility of becoming permanent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Strategy: Develop and implement operational strategies that support VCTC's goals and objectives, focusing on improving efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Leadership and Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing clinical operations team. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and accountability.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to optimise operations. Utilise data-driven analysis to measure and enhance performance.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the allocation and management of resources, including personnel, technology, and budget, to achieve operational goals.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all operations meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Implement quality control processes to maintain high standards of service and product delivery. Expertise in quality standards and regulatory requirements are not a requirement for this job role, but it will require the ability to pull this information from the team in a structured way.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Sales, Marketing, Finance, and HR, to ensure alignment and support for operational initiatives.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise impact on operations.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Monitor and report on operational performance using key metrics and KPIs. Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on analysis.

The Person

  • MBA or advanced degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field, or a commensurate amount of experience.
  • Significant experience in line management and operations management.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing operations and a growing team in a fast-paced environment, ideally in a complex or disruptive field.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in clinical research or a healthcare related field is essential.
  • Proficiency in operational software and tools.
