Position Title: Mainstream Teaching Assistant
Location: Carterton, Oxfordshire
Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Classroom Teacher, Head of Department or SENCO

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mainstream Teaching Assistant to join our team at a thriving secondary school in the area of Carterton, Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will support the classroom teacher in providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for all students. This role involves working with students individually and in small groups to enhance their educational experience and support their academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Assist the classroom teacher in delivering lessons and managing the classroom environment to ensure effective learning.
  • Student Supervision: Supervise students during class activities, break times, and other school-related activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Learning Support: Provide one-on-one and small group support to students who need additional help with their studies, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Lesson Preparation: Assist in the preparation of lesson materials, educational resources, and classroom displays to enhance the learning experience.
  • Behavioral Management: Support the implementation of positive behavior management strategies to promote a respectful and productive classroom atmosphere.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to the classroom teacher and contributing to student assessment and reporting.
  • Inclusive Education: Foster an inclusive learning environment that respects and celebrates diversity, ensuring that all students feel valued and supported.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with the classroom teacher, other staff members, and parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with various administrative tasks such as photocopying, organizing classroom supplies, and maintaining student records.
  • Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated with educational best practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. A Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and a compassionate and patient approach to working with children.
  • Technology: Basic proficiency in using educational technology and digital tools to support teaching and learning.
