Network Test & Automation Engineer - Layer 2 & 3 Testing / CISCO

Hybrid - On-site in Bradford x1 every 2 weeks
Network Test & Automation Engineer required for our leading client based in Bradford. Our client is currently seeking a highly skilled Engineer to come on board to provide expertise on managing, coordinating, facilitating, and executing test plans. The ideal candidate will be skilled in automating tests using suitable frameworks, handling defect management, and providing status reports, with a primary focus on Layer 2 and Layer 3 testing.
Key skills:
- Proven experience in developing a comprehensive network test automation framework and roadmap, encompassing technologies such as routing, switching, voice, wireless, security, cloud, DNS, and load balancing.
- Proficient in Layer 2 networking, including LAGs, spanning tree, control frame tunneling, CoS/QoS, TACACS, SNMP, FTP, SSH, NTP, ACLs, and Layer 2 device configuration and management.
- Expertise in scripting languages like Python and automation frameworks like Selenium and Robot.
- Skilled in developing application/service mapping between endpoints, load balancers, routers, and firewalls, with experience using traffic simulation tools via native APIs.
- Ability to standardise the networking environment through automation, including inventory management, templating, provisioning, analysis, auditing/reporting, and resolving discrepancies.
- Hands-on experience in developing tools for comprehensive network monitoring and visibility, including dashboards and visualizations for real-time network state and health.
- Capable of taking ownership of a suite of tools for network management and visibility, with experience in developing scalable on-premises or cloud-based programmatic solutions for managing extensive network environments.
- Previous experience in integrating automation with test management platforms like JIRA and Confluence.
- Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in Layer 2 Metro Ethernet networks, Layer 3 (preferably Cisco Kit), and SDWAN (Cisco/Versa/Meraki) for management, facilitation, automation, and testing.
- Proficient with traffic generators, Layer 3 protocols, Cisco IOS, and Versa/Cisco/Meraki SDWAN.
- Experienced with MEF certification, Layer 3 networking, Ixia traffic generators, Cisco IOX, Cisco IOS XR, Ciena SAOS 8.x.x, SAOS 10.x.x, and using Jira for sprint planning, updates, defect management, and Confluence for documentation.
