Service Manager - Fostering, Adoption, Placement

A Greater Manchester local authority requires a locum Service Manager to manage the

Fostering Services, Placements Team and Adoption Team.

An

Interim Service Manager

is required to manage, support and supervise our Fostering Service comprising of three Team Managers, the Children's Placements Team comprising one Team Manager and a keeping in touch role with the Regional Adoption Agency.

The Fostering Team is split into three pods; Recruitment & Assessment, Support and Supervision (mainstream) and Connected Persons Foster Carers.

There is a half time Panel Advisor post which will be line managed by the Agency Decision Maker in the short term. You will be overseeing 3 team managers. You will cover the whole range of fostering, recruitment and assessment, connect persons, support and supervision. The team are

supported by training officers.

The role of the Placements Team is to find placements for children and young people on an emergency and planned basis.

The successful applicant will have experience of managing this area of work and understand the pressure that comes with the role, which will require staying on after 5pm when a same day search commenced during office hours is needed. You will cover 1 team manager & 5 brokers. You will work with an external company to ensure appropriate placements are made.

The Adoption Team is seconded to the Regional Adoption Agency, therefore there is

no requirement for line management

, rather a light touch check-in with Head of Service holding quarterly meetings with the RAA team allocated to the local authority with the Service Manager attending.

but with a preference for four given the nature of the work. You will attend regular service manager meetings, and will have support from management and peers and will be part of a good improvement team.

The position is three months initially but realistically will extend with the

chance to consider permanent employment.

You will be experienced in fostering mainly at service manager level and experience of placements and has to be emotionally resilient.
