Location: London/Hybrid (2 days per week on site)

Rate: A highly competitive Umbrella Day Rate is available for suitable candidates

Role Profile

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Data Scientist on behalf of our client, a reputable investment banking firm. As a Data Scientist with our client, you will have the opportunity to work on various projects and contribute to the success of their data-driven initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate requirements and data mapping documents into technical ETL designs.
  • Create and review high-level design solutions.
  • Perform technical walkthroughs of amended DataStage ETL solutions for peer reviews.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain ETL code following best practises and standards.
  • Create and execute unit testing plans and support regression and system test efforts.
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues found during testing and production stages.
  • Promote DataStage ETL code using Perforce and Urban Code deployment tools.
  • Evaluate data for completeness and correctness, ensuring ETL code is working as expected.
  • Create basic reconciliations to demonstrate how the ETL interfaces meet acceptance criteria.
  • Communicate project status, issues, and blockers to the project manager and ETL team lead.
  • Support continuous improvement of ETL interfaces by identifying and solving opportunities.
  • Update and publish documentation, system diagrams, presentations, workflows, and project plans.
  • Attend project and ETL meetings.
  • Perform knowledge transfer sessions to ETL production support and development team.
  • Assist the production support team in resolving production incidents related to ETL processes when required.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure all deliverables meet internal standards and industry best practises within the agreed timeframe.
  • Maintain clear and transparent communication with key stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for project deliverables related to assigned initiatives.
  • Manage IT-related risks and issues, escalating them to appropriate management when necessary.
  • Contribute to strategic discussions and propose recommendations to IT management.
  • Troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, and conduct data analysis for BAU support requests.
  • Keep track of, escalate, and resolve IT-related risks and issues.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of IBM DataStage architecture and components.
  • Familiarity with DataStage Designer, Director, and Administrator.
  • Knowledge of DataStage jobs, stages, and data connections.
  • Experience with parallel job design and development.
  • Proficiency in relational databases (e.g., IBM Db2, Oracle, SQL Server) and SQL and PL/SQL programming.
  • Proven track record in designing, developing, and deploying DataStage jobs.
  • Ability to create complex ETL processes using DataStage and connectors.
  • Experience in performance tuning of DataStage jobs.
  • Proficiency in data transformation and applying data quality and cleansing routines.
  • Ability to integrate data from various sources and handle both structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in identifying and resolving ETL job failures.
  • Previous hands-on experience with different versions of IBM DataStage.
  • Project experience involving full project lifecycles, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
  • Ability to work in Agile or Waterfall project environments.
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Experience working with large datasets and optimising queries for performance.
