National Supply Chain Assistant - Sustainability Assistant

In the Sustainability role in the National Supply Chain Management department, you will be supporting with the delivery of our Global Sustainability Strategy. You will be responsible for monitoring and measuring progress of internal and external sustainability trials and activities across Aldi UK and Ireland relating to transportation emissions. Particular focus areas of this role include reviewing sustainability activities across the business (from deliveries into our RDCs to store deliveries), efficient flow of information management, colleague engagement and working collaboratively cross functionally to deliver our strategy end to end. Experience in these areas is not essential but would be desirable.

Your New Role

  • Supporting the National Supply Chain Manager with the delivery of projects to reduce Aldi's operational environmental impact.
  • Ensure deadlines are complied with.
  • Monitoring projects / trials to deliver carbon reduction across the business.
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement and management of all levels of business.
  • Ensure the efficient and accurate flow of information, with internal and external parties
  • Tailor communication of complex information in a clear way that is relevant for the audience.
  • Positively influence multiple levels of the business to continue to consider sustainability in their decision making.
  • Proactively develop own knowledge of topics, demonstrating initiative and suggesting ways of reducing operational carbon emissions use.
  • Monitor market wide technological advances and competitor activity in the relevant areas of Sustainability.
  • Prepare paperwork (Memos, One-Page Business Cases, Approval Documentation) to communicate the team's work and projects.
  • Align outbound sustainability strategy with inbound sustainability strategy.

About You

  • Demonstrate understanding of Sustainability, Sustainability in Transport Emissions, Logistics and Supply Chain
  • Confidence and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues of all levels is key.
  • Need strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues at all levels of the business.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload, conflicting deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to identify and manage priorities.
  • Innate curiosity; always striving to improve and simplify processes and ensure consistency wherever possible.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, be pro-active and work on own initiative, working both in a team and independently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; specifically Excel and Word.
  • Ability to investigate and analyse a challenge and offer a solution.
  • A desire for continued personal development.
  • Flexible and resilient when workload demands it
  • Able to positively influence stakeholders to gain buy-in for Sustainability initiatives
  • Experience developing and implementing business cases
  • Sustainability Supply Chain experience within retailers or 3PL's (desirable)
  • Experience in retail (desirable)
  • Experience in sustainability for transport (desirable)

  • Monday - Friday 8am to 4:30pm, with the opportunity of 2 days a week remote working
