Principal Enforcement

Morgan Hunt are currently working with a National Regulatory Body in their search for a Principal (Enforcement) to provide expert management, support, and leadership in the delivery of the organisation's statutory enforcement functions, smaller scale investigations and policy work.

Principals play a key role in managing our staff and our delivery through project and resource planning and line management. As a leader within the Casework and Enforcement team, you will be expected to support, empower and be a role model for junior members of the team. We will expect you to be a self starter and to positively demonstrate the organisations values and ways of working.

To effectively deliver this role the successful candidate will have exceptional analytical skills and judgement, with a strong ability to "join the dots" between related topics, the organisation's various regulatory tools, and the strategic outcomes they want to deliver. You will be able to quickly get to grips with new and varied subject areas, including relevant legal obligations, policy expectations, data sources and the strategic context in which they sit.

Being able to clearly structure and present evidence-based thinking and recommendations, and to encourage and respond to constructive challenge to improve our decision-making will be essential. You will build constructive working relationships with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders, liaising with them to understand and influence their priorities, to build understanding and confidence about our work, and, where appropriate, to collaborate to deliver shared objectives.

Job Title: Principal (Enforcement)

Location: Hybrid (2 days per week in London or Birmingham Office)

Annual Salary: £55,000 - £80,000

Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (12-18 months, potential extension)

Hours: Full-Time (37 hours per week)

Key Deliverables

  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills that enable you to design a suitable approach to delivering a task and to identify and apply relevant legal and policy frameworks and requirements.
  • The ability to develop and deliver against project plans (both directly and by managing multi-disciplinary teams, and where necessary external advisors/consultants).
  • A strong understanding and management of the interdependencies, strategic links and stakeholders relevant to your project delivery.
  • An excellent level of drafting and presenting expertise that will allow you to clearly present evidence-based conclusions and recommendations to complex problems to a range of audiences.
  • To lead the development of policy and process to support delivery by the Casework and Enforcement team, and working across the organisation as appropriate.
  • To act as a People Leader and/or Project Manager, taking on budget management responsibilities and, where appropriate, people management responsibilities.
  • To provide visible leadership and guidance to members of the Casework & Enforcement team to help develop the skills and experience of its junior members and to continue to support all members' professional development.
  • To listen to, influence and work with complex external stakeholders to optimise the impact of your work through the establishment and maintenance of relationships .
  • To engage effectively with internal stakeholders to share insights and expertise from and for casework and enforcement activities to maximise synergies with related work areas.

Person Specification

  • Proven track record of applying legal and analytical frameworks to deliver successful outcomes on large and/or complex investigations and/or policy projects.
  • Experience of effectively and efficiently planning, prioritising and managing the delivery of large projects and programmes of work, including through leadership of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience of identifying, analysing and accurately interpreting a range of data and insights to inform and build confidence in evidence-based decisions on complex problems.
  • Experience of communicating complex information and messages in writing and verbally, so that it is clear and persuasive to a range of audience types.
  • Experience of building and maintaining constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations, and to influence and collaborate effectively to deliver desired outcomes.
  • Degree level qualification in an analytical discipline or demonstrable relevant experience in an analytical / legal / economics-focused role.
  • Experience as a line manager and/or project manager, with responsibilities for managing budgets and people and supporting growth, inclusion and well-being.
