Job Title: Secondary Market Buyer

Reporting To: Fine Wine Buyer

Location: London (hybrid working - 3 days office/2 days WFH, plus occasional travel to Basingstoke office), Hong Kong based applicants will also be considered. (Hybrid working - 3 days in the office per week)

The job in a nutshell

To provide our global Private Client Team with a constant flow of fine wine offers sourced from secondary market trading. These offers will focus upon highly desirable, rare cases to supplement our campaigns & pre-planned sales activity.

A hunger to uncover the best wines possible, across all spending levels, whilst maximising margin. Consistently support offers with knowledge & market insight to help our Account Managers and wider teams capitalise upon opportunities.

What you will do

  • Purchase cases/parcels of highly desirable wines.
  • Be both proactive and reactive to Account Managers' stock needs.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to maximise margin.
  • Managing stock holds with the sales teams and suppliers.
  • Provide in-depth market insight to accompany offers.
  • Making stock available on the systems and alerting the sales team.
  • Liaising with the Fine Wine Admin team to raise PO's.
  • Liaising with Suppliers and FW admin Team to resolve stock issues.
  • Working together with the other Fine Wine Buyers to ensure all offers are maximised and consistent across all channels.
  • Purchasing and managing customer requests in line with a 48h SLA and a 30-day turnaround.

Key Accountabilities

  • Systematically maintain all current offers and liaise with Commercial Manager to avoid over loading.
  • Managing your personal stock holding budget.
  • Achieving turnover and margin targets across all teams.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and stock is promptly reallocated to the required teams/channels.
  • Ensure all offers, sales restrictions, pricing and deadlines are communicated in advance in a template form to all UK and international teams.
  • Respond to Account Managers demand within the agreed time frame when they require a specific adhoc broking purchase.
  • Assist with making stock available for the sales team to process and confirm to their customers in an efficient manner.
  • Cover members of the buying team when on annual leave.

What you will bring to the role

The Person

  • Proactive communicator, able to work with all areas of the business, at all levels.
  • Highly numerate with great attention to detail.
  • The ability to be flexible, decisive and quick-thinking.
  • The ability to manage own workload, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Have a sales mentality when offering stock to the sales teams.

Your Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Passion for the Berry Bros. & Rudd brand and an understanding of our customer.
  • Buying experience within a retail or wholesale business.
  • Existing strong network of suppliers.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills are essential.
  • WSET Diploma or equivalent & knowledge of the finest wine brands.
  • A demonstratable commercial focus and a strong negotiator.
