School Site Operative Trainee

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join a local school as a Site Operative Trainee. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their maintenance skills and grow within the role. You will work under the guidance of the Estates Manager to ensure a safe, high-quality environment for our school's staff and students, contributing to the school's aims and maintaining the standards set by the Governors.

This is a temporary to permanent position.

Hours/days - Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:04pm

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Learn and perform day-to-day maintenance tasks under supervision, including small repairs, painting, decorating, and basic carpentry.
  • Assist with porterage duties, including the movement of equipment and supplies.
  • Support gate duties to maintain a secure environment, including access control and CCTV system management.
  • Help with the setup and support for evening events, with flexible working hours as necessary.
  • Conduct site patrols, identify potential issues, and learn to report them through the ‘Every' system.
  • Accompany suppliers/contractors on-site and learn to oversee their work.
  • Participate in statutory inspections and learn to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Document tasks and observations through regular reporting and administrative duties.
  • Engage in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform outdoor duties as required, such as litter picking, window cleaning, and gritting during winter.
  • Train to act as the primary minibus driver when needed - not essential.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills in maintenance and facilities management.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Good communication skills for reporting and interacting with staff.
  • An understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures is beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
