**Laboratory Technician

The Technical Department at Cotteswold Dairy are looking for a reliable, methodical individual with excellent communication skills to train as a member of the Laboratory Team. Experience of working in a lab setting or food production would be ideal, and candidates who have proven ability to work accurately and with precision in a fast-paced environment will be considered

**Laboratory Technician Role

As quality & the safety of our product is paramount, our laboratory operates seven days per week: from the first delivery of raw milk fresh from the farm - until the last bottle is filled. Therefore the successful applicant will need to be fully flexible to cover a variety of shifts. You will also need to consider your commute - as public transport to site will not arrive in time for the earlier shifts

This is a fast paced and dynamic role. You will work with the Lab Team, the Technical Department and the Lab Manager to ensure compliance to company & legislative standards and requirements. You will conduct sampling and testing of products, microbiological tests and analyse results to maintain product quality control throughout the intake, storage, production and bottling of milk and cream products.

Laboratory Technician Working Hours

All staff in the Laboratory are expected to cover weekday and regular weekend shifts, with a range of start times on a rota basis. Shifts vary in length but are generally 8 to 10 hours in length, for a total of 37.5 hours per week.

Start times:

Saturday: 0300, 0530, 0800

Sunday: 0600

Weekday: 0300, 0530, 0600, 0700, 1200

Laboratory Technician Training

You will receive practical, hands-on training in the role as well as working towards your Basic Food Safety & COSHH. A level of understanding around best practice, safety and hygiene is desirable; though an understanding of Chemistry and Biology at a GCSE Level will be sufficient to begin your training in this role

Laboratory Technician Key Duties

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager & Technical Team, key duties include:

  • To conduct a variety of sampling and testing in line with the company's standards
  • Analyse and interpret results
  • To follow all procedures relating to COSHH, Health and Safety, Food Safety *
  • Accurately complete records
  • Ensure laboratory areas are kept clean and tidy
  • Due to food hygiene regulations earrings, studs, bracelets, necklaces, rings, makeup, strong smelling deodorants and perfumes are not permitted in the laboratory, factory or warehouse areas

Laboratory Technician Skills

  • A good communicator able to build excellent working relationships
  • ????Previous experience of working to high levels of hygiene standards
  • GCSE in Biology, Chemistry and Maths – grade B or above; or a qualification in Biological Sciences
