  • Salary: Up to £41,438 + £4000 market factor supplement reviewed annually

Doncaster Council are looking for a Highways Engineer to support their Senior Engineers in the Highway Maintenance section. The ideal candidate will have a level 4 qualification in Civil Engineering or Highways Maintenance and be working towards a professional qualification. This role involves ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, relevant standards, and public safety, while implementing good Highway Maintenance and associated Asset Management practices.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Support the management, administration, and implementation of Highway Maintenance projects and activities.
  • Programme Highway Safety Inspections and coordinate the activities of Highway Inspectors and Routine Maintenance Officers.
  • Deliver Routine Maintenance projects on time and within budget, including those identified within the approved annual programme of works.
  • Ensure projects are designed, tendered, evaluated, awarded, implemented, and managed in accordance with the Council's policies and contract standing orders.
  • Programme and manage annual machine and condition surveys, processing data to produce Road Condition Indicators.
  • Manage highway maintenance hierarchies, updating and maintaining survey networks and inventory records.
  • Assist in defending the council against third-party insurance claims by providing evidence and statements as required.
  • Support the Senior Engineer in the development and review of Highway Policies.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Level 4 qualification in Civil Engineering or Highways Maintenance.
  • Significant experience in highway maintenance management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Highways Act 1980 and the Highways Code of Practice.
  • Good communication skills and experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in performance management systems, tender preparation, and contract management.
  • Experience in planning and implementing change initiatives.
  • Experience working with Elected Members, community organisations, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing new policy and strategic direction in service delivery.
  • Detailed technical knowledge in Highways Routine Maintenance.
  • Understanding of health and safety and CDM legislation.
