School Cook - Location: Midge Hall, near Leyland, Lancashire

Salary: £13.14 - £14.72 p/hr depending on experience £25,286 - £28,327

Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time Only + 3 weeks

This School is an independent day school in Lancashire providing specialist education for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH) and Autistic Spectrum Condition.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Relevant knowledge of regulations and standards for the catering environment.
  • Key aspects of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a range of internal and external people, verbally and in writing
  • Experience working with special diets and allergens
  • Highly organised
  • A passion for creating healthy home cooked foods with experience of cooking with a wide range of ingredients.

The Role:

The role of Cook is to provide good quality food, for a range of dietary needs, using fresh ingredients. The role will deliver an effective catering service with a dynamic approach to continually strive to improve the catering with new initiatives and menu ideas and distilling an enthusiasm for cooking and eating well in others.

Key Duties:

  • Provide a balanced menu and diet to a high standard within budget.
  • Ensure current legislation/regulations are fully met, and that records are kept up to date and are available for inspection.
  • Undertake full range of management tasks for catering team, including supervisions, supporting training needs
  • Create menus that are appealing and nutritionally balanced
  • Prepare, cook and present home cooked food using fresh ingredients where possible ensuring appropriate portion control
  • Take responsibility and ensure the smooth running of the kitchen
  • Liaise with suppliers, building good relationships.
  • Monitoring stock and quality control, ensuring the college remains within budget allocation.
  • Undertake menu planning, to provide nutritionally balanced food, within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations relating to food preparation, cooking and storage.
  • Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Ordering of supplies ensuring best value
