Repairs & Maintenance Officer

  • Contract Rate: £15 per hour

  • Job Type: Interim contract
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week

We are seeking a Repairs & Maintenance Officer to provide professional and technical advice on repairs and maintenance within the Council Housing Service. This interim role is crucial in supporting the Council to meet its obligations under the Building Safety regulations and Fire Safety Act. You will be responsible for carrying out Health & Safety walkdowns and Fire Safety inspections across high-rise residential buildings in the city.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist with the supervision, development, and training of the Repairs and Maintenance Support Officer.
  • Conduct home visits to clients for general surveying, contract administrative duties, and property improvement assessments.
  • Perform inspections and surveys, prepare technical and non-technical reports, and make recommendations for remedial actions.
  • Appraise repair options for major work to ensure value for money and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Provide guidance to Repairs Support Officers on complex repair issues, high-value work, and multiple jobs.
  • Collaborate with Housing Plus officers on repairs-related issues to deliver seamless service to customers.
  • Manage repairs policies adherence and customer expectations regarding property works.
  • Schedule and plan repairs appointments, keeping customers informed of any changes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Adaptability to change and new situations with a positive attitude.
  • Effective communication skills across all methods, ensuring clarity and understanding for the audience.
  • Commitment to following Council Policies and Procedures, including health and safety, equalities, diversity and inclusion, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Previous experience in maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the Fire Safety Act & Building Safety Regulations.
