Early Years Educator

This is unique opportunity to work for the outstanding bi-lingual Kindergarten at the German School in Ham/ Richmond as full time Maternity Cover (39 hours) for one year, with a possible option to extend.

The Early Years Educator supports the Group Leader and adapts to the needs of the groups with children from 3 to 6 years old.

The day starts at 7.45am ensuring that all children are welcome and cared for in their individual groups.

The German School offers wonderful, extensive grounds and outdoor gardens and playgrounds, providing many opportunities for outdoor and creative play with the children and a healthy, nurturing environment.

Kindergarten Groups at the DSL are bi-lingual, German and an English, so you must be prepared to engage with the language being spoken.

The Role

Support a stimulating and safe learning environment for children aged 3-6 years

  • Support the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities to support each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues to ensure a supportive and inclusive atmosphere
  • Providing feedback to parents and guardians when necessary.
  • Collaborate with team members to continuously improve the learning environment of the 'Kinderhaus'.
  • Participation in school events, such as the Lantern Festival, Summer Festival or Open Day
  • Participation, planning, exchange of information and preparation for an Ofsted inspection
  • Participation in team meetings, Kindergarten or Preschool, afternoon meetings and Primary School - - Participation in parents' evenings and parent-teacher conferences
  • Participation in general conferences
  • Participation in further training meetings
  • Support observation visits and staff meetings

Skills and Experience Required

  • At least 3 years experience as Early Years Educator Level 3 or above; or similar qualification
  • Excellent command of the English language, oral and written
  • Some German would be an advantage but is not necessary
  • Confident and competent appearance
  • A positive attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills
