Role Overview:

As a Finance Analyst at Calor, you will be instrumental in minimizing our risk profile through effective hedging and communicating portfolio impacts to our Commercial teams, aiding in the setting of pricing strategies. You will drive the reporting of our gas inventory position, directly impacting working capital. This role requires a proactive approach to developing and managing robust forecasting and control processes for our gas inventory across multiple sites, ensuring compliance with inventory policies and audit standards.

Your responsibilities will include developing gas inventory control and count processes, assisting with balance sheet account reconciliations, and forecasting gas inventory levels to support working capital and cash flow projections. You will work closely with various business units to strengthen the connection between sites and finance, using key performance indicators (KPIs) to add value and enhance working capital management. Additionally, you will own the commodity risk register, execute hedging trades, manage intercompany balance positions, and lead customer-specific hedging initiatives.

Effective communication and the ability to convey the impact of commodity hedging on cost of sales and margins to the Commercial team will be critical. You will also participate in departmental initiatives and undertake ad hoc projects as required.

Key Skills, Experience & Knowledge:

  • Be qualified or working towards final stages of CIMA or ACCA qualifications.
  • Experience in a financial accounting environment.
  • Initiative and self-motivation with a strong desire to develop.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and seek improvements in systems, reports, information, and data.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels within Calor, SHV, and with external auditors.
  • Sound decision-making skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and a high level of proficiency with computerized systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage gas inventory control processes across approximately 60 sites, ensuring adherence to policies and audit compliance.
  • Assist with balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring timely action on outstanding items.
  • Forecast gas inventory levels to support working capital and cash flow forecasts.
  • Implement working capital initiatives to reduce Days Inventory Outstanding (DIO).
  • Strengthen the link between sites and finance regarding gas stock control, using KPIs to add business value.
  • Own the Commodity risk register and execute commodity hedging trades.
  • Manage intercompany balance positions for commodity hedges.
  • Lead the customer-specific hedging quotation process, execute trades, track actuals, and report results.
  • Communicate the impact of commodity hedging on cost of sales to the Commercial team, ensuring full understanding of margin impacts.
  • Participate in departmental initiatives and undertake ad hoc projects as needed.
