Taking the lead on strategic policy initiatives at the forefront of the retail sector, you'll be working with leading retailers, representing the BRC within Government and stakeholder groups in all the UK nations.

Retail is an exciting and diverse industry, a hotbed of innovation and the UK's largest private sector employer. The BRC is the industry's leading body, recognised for its powerful campaigning and influence within government. Working with members to drive positive change, they use their expertise to create an economic environment that enables businesses to thrive and consumers to benefit.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing the Buying Community to deliver relevant policy on non-food consumer products, ensure effective communication with members.
  • Liaise with associate members and identify commercial opportunities for partnership working with external organisations.
  • Responsible for delivery of chemicals issues through the Chemicals Working Group and, where necessary, dedicated task and finish groups to deliver guidance and support on specific product categories.
  • Build relationships with key trade associations to share knowledge on specialist product lines.
  • Be a pro-active, supportive member of the Food & Sustainability team and wider BRC teams. Where necessary support food technical colleagues in delivering comprehensive technical support across all categories to members.

We're looking for:

  • A consummate communicator with a strong knowledge and understanding of the requirements for non-food consumer product safety issues likely to affect BRC members
  • A versatile professional, able to work with technical experts to understand the impact of new regulations and influence their implementation
  • An enthusiastic, self-starter with the initiative to get to grips with BRC members' businesses and operations and relate this to the development of appropriate opportunities for raising both the profile of the retail industry and the BRC in pursuit of its goals.
  • Able to demonstrate both the ability and credibility to work alongside senior management and to represent the BRC to external contacts, including government officials, business organisations, and NGOs.

The BRC offer a range of excellent benefits including investment into professional development and health and wellbeing. The office is located in Covent Garden and the BRC offer a flexible working policy with core hours of 10am-4 pm.
