About the Role

Base Location: Perth or Edinburgh - this is a hybrid role working a mix of home and the office at one of the advertised locations.

We have an opportunity for a Head of Trade Control to join our Energy Markets leadership team. The Trade Control team is responsible for the management of the processes, controls and monitoring to ensure excellent trade management and the accuracy and integrity of EM's trading systems. The team are a key enabler for daily production of accurate exposures, margining and P&L ensuring our back office can confirm, invoice and correctly account for our trading activities.

  • You will undertake a key role in support of the Energy Markets Executive Committee, leading the trade control team to fulfil both their daily operational trade management responsibilities as well as within strategic projects and development of new business.
  • You will be a key member within our Energy Markets leadership team and work to drive our trading business forward to achieving its strategic goals.
  • You will lead business change and ensure back to front operational readiness of new commercial products across Energy Markets.
  • You will lead, challenge, influence, and engage with all levels of the trading and optimisation function to our back to front controls are relevant and upheld and that they are securing optimal revenues from asset backed trading activity.
  • You will lead and own the successful leadership and delivery of strategic change projects.
  • You will have a deep operational knowledge of UK and European energy markets and processes with the ability to demonstrate a flair for creating innovative solutions to meet changing needs and requirements.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Strong leadership, coaching and development skills. Experience leading a team with varying levels of experience.
  • Experience of working in an energy trading environment and having an in depth understanding of wholesale energy markets.
  • Strong problem solving and innovative approach to find logical, robust and safe solutions to both day to day operations and strategic change. This will be supported by in depth knowledge of ETRM & Risk system logic.
  • You will be comfortable dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders within the company and effective in building strong working relationships with other business areas. Customer focus will be at the heart of what you do.
  • You will be collaborative, proactive and inclusive and demonstrate a consistent positive attitude and encourage a great Energy Markets culture and way of working.

Energy Markets (EM) is the energy markets heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimiser, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). This role for EM enables SSE to focus its investment in energy markets capabilities (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics, Settlements and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence, with these enhanced capabilities supporting value creation and decision making across the SSE Group.
