Head of Finance

We are delighted to be partnering exclusively with The ExtraCare Charitable Trust to recruit a Head of Finance. This role will oversee Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Planning, Treasury and Income Management. The role is paying an attractive £96,000 per annum, plus a £6,456 Company Car Allowance.

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust is a registered charity established in 1988, based in Coventry. They employ 1250 staff, with a turnover of over £60m plus over £70m of property sales, offering 4199 homes for older people.

Their vision is 'Better Lives for Older People' and their mission is to 'Create sustainable communities that provide homes older people want, lifestyles they can enjoy and care if it is needed.'

To deliver their vision and mission they essentially do three things:

  • Develop new villages.
  • Operate villages and schemes.
  • Support their villages, schemes and their 'extra-care' model through fundraising, advocacy & research.

Since 1988, ExtraCare has been the UK's leading not-for-profit pioneer for retirement living, opening 20 locations around their Midlands base and further South.

As a charity their surpluses are re-invested into charitable activities - helping them provide better services and support.

Head of Finance:

  • Lead the Finance team to provide a high-quality service to customers and stakeholders.
  • Support the Executive Leadership Team to shape and inform corporate planning ambitions with a robust medium term financial plan and strategy along with longer term financial plan.
  • Be a key member of the Senior Management Team: contributing to wider business performance, strategies and policy development to ensure the Finance team are involved in all key business decisions.
  • Ensure that financial controls are maintained: setting the control framework and ensuring measures are in place to assess their effectiveness.
  • Support the Executive Director of Corporate Resources (EDCR) to ensure the adequacy of funding streams, undertaking refinancing as required.
  • Manage and coach the Financial Controller, Financial Planning Accountant and Finance Manager to ensure that they work to high standards and operate as a cohesive team.
  • Prepare and present routine and ad-hoc reports for The Executive, Committees and Board.
  • Liaise with auditors and lead on the production of the Annual Report and Accounts for the Charity and its retail subsidiary.
  • Responsible for all Financial Reporting (both internal and external) and the budgeting process for the Charity and its retail subsidiary.
  • Support the EDCR in maintaining relationships with key third parties such as the Charity's auditors and bankers.
  • Support the EDCR and deputise in their absence.

This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure where applicable, two satisfactory references, medical clearance and Home Office right to work clearance.

This job description will be reviewed annually.

Head of Finance:

  • Relevant professional and recognised accountancy qualification, e.g. ACA, ACCA, ACMA, CIPFA or equivalent.
  • Experience leading a Finance Team within a medium/large organisation.
  • Previous experience presenting at Committee and Board level.
  • Experience of supporting, influencing, and monitoring the strategic direction of an organisation with the ability to evidence working at Board level.
  • Previous work in Finance and Accounting in Social Housing would be desirable.
  • Experience of successfully leading and managing people.
  • Experience managing / co-ordinating risk management activities.
  • Proven knowledge of developing and implementing efficient and accessible management information.
  • Keen focus on quality, customer service, best practice and value for money.
  • Role models behaviours and act with the highest level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates resilient leadership - ability to motive and inspire teams and colleagues.
  • Adaptable to change within a dynamic organisation and regulatory environment.
  • Flexible with the ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities, and deliver to strict deadlines.

Head of Finance:

  • £96,000, plus £6,456 Company Car Allowance.
  • 37.5 hours per week.
  • 25 days annual leave, plus 8 public holidays.
