Special Educational Needs Teacher

  • Starting at £110 per day

Here at Long-Term teachers we are working with a number of special educational needs (SEN) schools in Exeter and the surrounding areas. We are an independent agency that works with schools all across the South West.

We are looking to recruit experienced, passionate and enthusiastic qualified teachers who are either seeking a new challenge or have previously worked with young people with SEN. This role would be perfect for someone who has worked in a mainstream school and is looking to continue their professional development.

What it's like to work in a SEN school:

  • Young people will often have learning difficulties and sometimes physical disabilities
  • Young people may not have had the best start to life, experienced trauma or have high levels of anxiety
  • Unlike mainstream schools, they have much smaller class sizes
  • There are more support staff in the room to work with
  • The curriculum is tailored to the needs of the pupils
  • The provision is catered to the needs of the students and is therefore, a better and safer environment for students with SEN

We are looking for teachers who have qualified teacher status (QTS) and have excellent knowledge of special educational needs. No two days are the same when working in a SEN school so it is essential that you are resilient, adaptable and most importantly, willing to get stuck in and support our young people.

You will be working with young people with a wide range of needs and backgrounds, including those who have experienced trauma or have high levels of anxiety. Knowledge and understanding of strategies to support these young people is essential.

What working for us involves:

  • Educating students in various subjects and at different key stages
  • Creating a positive and engaging learning environment
  • Responsible for the safeguarding and wellbeing of young people
  • Communicate regularly with other staff members
  • Implementing special educational provisions (such as EHCP)

With flexible work, you will liaise with your consultant with regards to your availability where we can book accordingly. Should you wish to hear about long term, permanent roles, we are happy to arrange interview and trial days.
