We are expanding our digital capabilities and are looking for a highly skilled Cloud Database Architect / DBA to manage our critical data systems, particularly those hosted on Azure. This role will be vital in ensuring our database infrastructure supports our long-term growth and the dynamic needs of our clients.

Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Cloud Database Architect / DBA to oversee and manage our database systems and Azure cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management, cloud technologies (Azure), and DevOps practices, ensuring scalable, high-performing, and secure database environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable databases (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, etc.).
  • Optimize database performance, conduct regular audits, and apply best practices for data security.
  • Manage backups, disaster recovery (DR), and high availability (HA) solutions in Azure.
  • Work closely with the DevOps team to automate database deployments using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Oversee cloud infrastructure planning on Azure, including cost optimization and resource scaling.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting for database systems, ensuring performance metrics are consistently met.
  • Create, document, and maintain database policies and procedures.
  • Design and execute database migrations to/from the Azure cloud environment.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure data models align with business requirements and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) with at least 3-5 years of experience working with cloud databases, particularly on Azure.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, and NoSQL databases.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL database management.
  • Proficiency in Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps, and Azure Active Directory.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, ARM Templates, or Bicep.
  • Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Knowledge of Azure cost management and resource optimization.
  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, etc.) for database tasks.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred:

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, or other containerization tools.
  • Familiarity with Data Warehousing and ETL processes.

Salary Range:

  • £60,000 - £90,000 per year (full-time)
