The Role

The IT Support Technician at FTF Yorkshire is a pivotal role within the IT Support Team, situated in the IT Service Management Group under the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions Unit in UKAEA's Computing Division. Tasked with overseeing centrally managed IT services and infrastructure across UKAEA sites, the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions unit, along with the ITSM group, strategically employs ITIL dimensions to enhance capabilities in General Management, Service Management, and Technical Management. The IT Support Team, operating as the face of the Computing Division to the business, ensures seamless delivery of the IT Service Desk function, adhering to ITIL best practices and prioritising efficient incident and service request management. This role, based at FTF Yorkshire and reporting to the IT Support Team Leader, is instrumental in representing the Computing Division and providing independent IT support services at the designated location.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Solely accountable for 1st and 2nd line IT support at FTF, assisting remote users alongside the Culham-based IT Support team when local workload permits.
- Manage hardware support for diverse computer platforms, performing maintenance tasks, repairs, and replacements for desktops, laptops, and related accessories.
- Monitor and address connectivity issues in network performance and Telecoms systems. Provide support for various operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux, implementing imaging and application deployment processes.
- Administer user accounts in Active Directory, manage information storage, and ensure data security, while supporting meeting room VC technologies such as Zoom and Teams.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

- HNC in Computing or equivalent IT Support experience.
- Exceptional knowledge of operating systems: Microsoft Windows 10 and 11, MAC OS, and Linux.
- Demonstrated success in managing PC imaging and application deployment.
- Proficient in IT domains, covering networking, server management, and security, with the ability to provide support in the absence of on-site representatives.
- Extensive practical knowledge of office-based software systems, including MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and associated licensing.
- Exemplary awareness of end-user IT security measures, including safeguarding against malware, password management, identifying phishing emails, and keeping software updated.

Desirable Requirements:

- Takes an analytical approach to problem-solving.
- Has exposure in working in industrial-controlled environments.
- Has exposure working with products such as Forticlient, NoMachine, Protocols such as DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IPV4, concepts of HA and failover, Server and storage optimisation and so on
- Wealth of experience in productive cross functional team collaboration in a scientific research and plant environments.
