We're seeking a skilled and dedicated Payroll Administrator to join our clients' dynamic finance team. Based within the Payroll Operations team and reporting to one of the Payroll Team Managers, this role requires a customer-focused approach to accurately administer complex, high-volume payrolls. The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, maintaining compliance with governance and audit procedures, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and processing of high-volume and complex payrolls in line with SLAs and HMRC legislation.
  • Logging any advances, errors, and overpayments, and reporting any known issues/defects to a Payroll Team Manager for timely review.
  • Ensuring all work instructions and processes are regularly reviewed and remain compliant with governance and audit procedures. Proactively escalating any discrepancies or changes required.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, highlighting new ideas and better ways of working.
  • Regularly reviewing all Finance reconciliation items for areas of responsibility.
  • Supporting internal/external payroll reviews/audits when required.
  • Assisting in the training of team members as needed.
  • Working with employees, business stakeholders, and internal/external teams to promptly resolve any business, employee, and third-party payroll-related queries, ensuring effective communication methods are used.
  • Identifying and taking relevant preventative action to minimize under/overpayments.
  • Prioritizing own workload and using initiative and problem-solving capabilities to provide a responsive payroll service at all times.
  • Performing other duties as defined by the Payroll Team Manager and business.

Skills and Experience
Essential:
Education:

  • GCSEs or equivalent in Mathematics and English, grades A-C

Experience:

  • 2 years of knowledge and experience of UK Payroll
  • Previous experience of working within a payroll service delivering multiple payrolls
  • Payroll legislation knowledge, including an appreciation for future changes and the possible impact of these on a payroll function
  • PC literacy, competent in Word, Excel & Outlook
  • Excellent people skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interrogate and analyse data demonstrating numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain strong relationships with external clients and internal colleagues.

Desirable:

  • CIPP or equivalent payroll qualification
  • Experience with Resource Link system or similar
