The London Fire Brigade are looking to recruit a Senior Project Manager to join the central pool of Project Managers within the Transformation Directorate on a temporary 3-month basis.

The successful candidate will lead a variety of complex, strategic projects within the portfolio, utilising structured project and programme management methodologies to deliver desired outcomes within time, cost, and quality constraints.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Manage complex strategic projects from initiation to completion, considering all risks, constraints, and interdependencies.
  • Prepare detailed project business cases with robust options appraisals, including resource forecasting and delivery schedules.
  • Develop and implement project plans, oversee risk and issues management, and ensure effective mitigation measures with appropriate monitoring and reporting.
  • Lead project teams, schedule resources, and make effective use of organisational resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Monitor project milestones and activities against the project plan, identifying benefits, and implementing a benefits realisation strategy.
  • Develop progressive communications plans tailored to stakeholder groups and robust financial management processes.
  • Report regularly on project progress, finances, risks, and issues to the project board and programme manager.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisation by sharing lessons learned from projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience managing strategic, multi-disciplinary, highly complex projects using recognised project management methodologies.
  • Ability to manage projects from initiation through to completion, addressing risks, constraints, and interdependencies.
  • Experience working with a range of internal and external stakeholders at senior levels
  • Proficiency in a range of IT applications, with the ability to maintain financial records and monitor expenditure.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, project and time management skills, with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentational skills, with a strategic view and high level of political awareness.
