Policy and Public Affairs Manager: Ageas have an exciting opportunity for a Policy and Public Affairs Manager to join the business in one of our southern offices. The post holder with be responsible for leading the development, delivery and measurement of the Public Affairs plan to promote, protect and enhance the reputation of Ageas in the UK and influence public policy on matters that impact the business and its key stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities as Policy and Public Affairs Manager:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Public Affairs & CEO Office to devise and implement effective strategies addressing and influencing live and potential issues affecting Ageas's reputation and Licence To Operate in the short, medium and long term.
  • Create and manage systems to monitor trends and political issues ensuring rapid and consistent responses.
  • Gather and disseminate relevant, accurate and timely information to the senior management through robust brefing systems, ensuring business readiness for potential political risks and opportunities.
  • Coordinate responses across Comms, Risk and the wider business in alignment with business policy.
  • Identify, map, and cultivate strong relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Act as a senior spokesperson and main point of contact for political stakeholders.
  • Set high communication standards when researching and writing briefing materials
  • and content for internal and external use.
  • Advise, coach and brief spokespeople on communication with external stakeholders, and ahead of appearances at external events and government and trade body committees/meetings.
  • Brief, appoint and manage suppliers ensuring that the correct due diligence and procurement processes are adhered to and services delivered within budget.
  • Work closely with the Head of Public Affairs to lead and foster a diverse, performance-driven and agile team of engaged and motivated professionals.
  • Deputise for the Head of Public Affairs & CEO Office and their leadership team as required.

To be successful in being considered for the Policy and Public Affairs Manager role you will need the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in UK Public Affairs with an excellent knowledge of UK policy making, ideally in the financial sector and preferably insurance.
  • University-level education, preferably in an area related to Politics, Economics or law.
  • Good understanding of strategic and regulatory issues in financial services.
  • Highly developed team spirit, a sense of responsibility, intellectual curiosity, ability to take initiatives, and be proactive.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and speak in public.
  • Ability to analyse complex political and policy issues, assess their impact on Ageas, and develop strategic responses.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to engage with government officials, industry bodies, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Experience in managing issues that affect Ageas's reputation and operations.
  • Quick response and crisis management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of public policy, legislation, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to influence policy development and advocate for Ageas's interests.
  • Capacity to devise long-term strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Understanding of political landscapes and trends.
  • Collaborative approach to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Leadership skills to guide the broader team and manage projects.
