Planning Officer

Our client based in East London is currently recruiting for a Planning Officer to join their Development Management team as soon as possible.

This is a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis and is offering hybrid working at between £25 - £27 per hour Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35)

The purpose of the role is to be responsible for the processing of Development Management matters within an area based or function based team including responsibility for the handling of pre-application advice, planning applications, appeals and enforcement including negotiations with developers and other interested parties, securing financial and other community benefits through legal agreements.

Responsibilities:

  • To work in conjunction with the Area Team Leader in achieving timely, effective planning outcomes which uphold the Council's Core Values and meet the challenges of Best Value and Comprehensive Performance Assessment.
  • To be accountable to the Area Team Leader for achieving agreed Service outcomes and personal appraisal targets.
  • To ensure statutory and legal obligations are delivered and communicated in a customer focussed manner, optimising available resources.
  • To provide advice and support to junior colleagues within the team as required.
  • To deputise for the Area Team Leader as required
  • To represent the Council as an expert spokesperson on issues related to their functional area of responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Experience of providing services to customers and being accountable for these services.
  • Experience of a wide range of development control work, and the ability to deal with complex applications and/or projects.
  • A relevant qualification in Town Planning or equivalent which supports membership of the RTPI or a postgraduate qualification in a related discipline combined with relevant experience in the field of development management and evidence of commitment to attain a necessary relevant qualification in Town Planning.   • In depth post qualification experience in Planning of which a significant element relates to the Development Control process.
