Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of students with special educational needs? We're seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to become part of our supportive team at our SEN upper school.

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be crucial in supporting students with various needs, focusing on their safety, emotional well-being, and educational progress. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Learning or a designated teacher to deliver the curriculum both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting Students:

  • Offer one-on-one or small group assistance to aid students' physical, emotional, educational, and social development.
  • Promote independent learning through structured activities and programs.
  • Foster nurturing relationships to enhance students' self-esteem, independence, and resilience.
  • Create an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported.

Classroom Support:

  • Assist teachers in planning and executing customised lesson plans.
  • Maintain a well-organised and supportive classroom environment.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between activities throughout the school day.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and achievements.

Additional Duties:

  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Supervise students during non-classroom times, including before and after school and during lunch.
  • Support school trips and external activities.
  • Uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
  • At least one year of experience as a Teaching Assistant or Classroom Assistant.
  • Understanding of educational practices related to child welfare and education.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and colleagues and work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications in Education.
  • Experience with SEMH, ASD, and other special educational needs.
  • Proficiency in ICT and a First Aid qualification.

Requirements:

  • Adherence to the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Completion of an Enhanced Disclosure check upon appointment.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings outside regular school hours if needed.
  • Physical capability to engage in Restrictive Physical Interventions if required.
