Head of Finance

We're working with a fantastic school in Surrey in recruiting an interim Head of Finance to start in August 2024. Ideally you'll be free to work 3 days a week (all on site) and become an integral member of the finance team.

Purpose of Post

  • To be responsible for the School finance operation in conjunction with the COO
  • To implement change, optimising financial efficiency and transparency
  • To liaise with Senior stakeholders to provide financial information
  • To manage the School's relationship in conjunction with COO, and other relevant service providers to maximise the impact of each relationship. To ensure SLAs and KPIs are in place and financial information flow is effectively and clearly managed

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To lead the School's finance team to improve their delivery of objectives to provide an efficient and effective finance service.
  • To evaluate current services and resources allocation, and identify and directing cross-cutting improvements including where necessary in the department structures and processes to meet cost and service objectives.
  • Ensure the School's finances are integrated where necessary and that all reporting and information sharing is in place and that group financial matters are translated to the schools.
  • Orchestrate the process to set the Schools budgets from the bottom up, ensuring effective budget submission and tracking processes are in place for budget holders.
  • Agree school budgets with COO and Headmaster, prior to submission and distribution to department heads.
  • Provide mentorship and development of the School's finance personnel and build a cohesive team whose service levels meet the needs of key stakeholders.
  • Produce monthly financial monitoring reports highlighting areas for improvement and notable changes.
  • Producing commentary on management and statutory accounts and budget and supervise the reporting on fee recovering, supporting the COO in reporting on such matters to the Finance & Estates Committee and Board of Governors.
  • Supervision of termly and full year management accounts for the School, asset tracking, and consolidated accounts for the School and their Charities.
  • Working with the budget holders, to ensure capital expenditure and capital development are aligned the Condition Survey and related budget.
  • Produce key financial papers, advice and inputs for the School Finance and Estates Committees and Boards that cover (but not limited to):
  • Appropriate ?nancial modelling, analysis and benchmarking to contribute to key decisions.
  • Management of spending on capital projects.
  • Global financial reporting
  • Bursaries and Scholarships modelling.
  • Ensure appropriate training for budget holders is in place from the finance department
  • Produce and monitor financial risks and discuss monthly with COO.
  • Monitor monthly debtors reports and escalate to COO where appropriate
  • Implement AML checks and controls within the Finance team as per the AML policy
