Senior Information Governance Officer

Location - Medway, Kent

Salary - Up to £28.00 p/h DOE

Benefits - Hybrid or Remote working

Hours - 37.5 hours per week

My client a local council is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Information Governance Officer on a contract basis, you will be required to work 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities for the role of Senior Information Governance Officer

  • Actively work with colleagues to achieve service plan objectives and targets
  • to understand and actively keep up to date with GDPR responsibilities, including completing regular refresher training
  • Ensure safeguarding is everyone's responsibility: all employees are required to act in such a way that safeguards the health and well-being of children and vulnerable adults
  • Actively participate in the performance appraisal process and contribute to the identification of own and team development needs utilising the career development framework
  • Proactively promote the council's fair access, diversity and inclusion policy and observe the standard of conduct which prevents discrimination from taking place
  • Ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the council's health and safety policy and all locally agreed safe methods of work
  • Have oversight and fully understand and be aware of the commitment to the duty under section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to prevent crime and disorder
  • Promote the local authority's carbon neutral by 2050 commitment; support the council action plan to ensure we play our part in addressing the climate emergency

Skills and Experience for the role of Senior Information Governance Officer

Essential:

  • Must hold a Law degree or equivalent degree-level qualification in General Data Protection Regulations
  • Will have Applied knowledge and understanding of public sector obligations concerning the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004, and other relevant legislation relating to information governance
  • Would have extensive experience working within a public authority information governance function
  • Experience in handling high-risk impact and privacy assessments
  • Experience in managing new initiatives within the Information Governance Framework
  • Highly competent in applying technical/specialist/policy & procedural knowledge across a wide range of activities
  • Must have excellent communication, consultation and influencing skills tailored to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences
