Wolverhampton ASD School - seeking TA staff

Posted by Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited.

My school is dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing environment for children and young people with autism and a range of complex learning difficulties. The goal is to help each student thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. They are currently seeking passionate and committed Teaching Assistants to join their dynamic team in Wolverhampton.
Role Overview:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of our students. You will work closely with teachers to provide tailored support to students with diverse needs, helping them engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
Why Being Proactive Matters:
In a special school setting such as this one, it is vital to be proactive in your approach towards students. Many of our pupils have complex needs that require sensitive and immediate responses. By anticipating and recognising their individual needs early, you can help prevent potential challenges, reduce anxiety, and create a structured and calm learning environment. A proactive approach ensures that students feel safe, supported, and understood, empowering them to overcome barriers and engage more fully in their learning. Your ability to provide consistent, thoughtful support will have a lasting positive impact on each student's development.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons, adapting materials to meet the specific needs of individual students.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support, focusing on students' learning, social, and emotional development.
  • Support students with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including autism and associated learning difficulties.
  • Help create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Encourage students' independence, self-esteem, and social skills.
  • Assist with personal care and physical needs, where required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help students develop coping strategies.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs (preferred but not essential).
  • A compassionate, patient, and flexible approach to working with children.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to the individual needs of students.
  • A relevant qualification in childcare, education, or SEN support (desirable but not essential).
  • DBS clearance (required for the role).
