Ranger

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

We are looking for a Ranger to help manage a beautiful section of Exmoor's coastal heath. Working with an experienced team, you will be helping to deliver management across a large countryside estate, improving habitats and access on a landscape scale. As a Ranger, you're the heart and soul of the National Trust in the landscapes we protect. You're a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you'll play a crucial role in keeping the nation's beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.

You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

This role is offered as a three-year fixed-term contract.

Provisional Interview date: Monday 8th July

What it's like to work here

The Holnicote estate is a large and diverse countryside estate set within the Exmoor National Park. Working as a Ranger you will be joining an experienced countryside team. This fixed term contract will focus on delivering a new Countryside Stewardship scheme which incudes a large area of the Exmoor Coastal Heaths SSSI. Key responsibilities will include habitat management/creation, overseeing contractors and ecological monitoring. As part of the Uplands team you will also work across the wider estate, balancing nature conservation, cultural landscapes, estate maintenance, relationships with farmers and visitor engagement.

What you'll be doing

You will be responsible for the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire others to love this beautiful place as much as you do. Tasks will include fencing, heathland/woodland management, scrub clearance and footpath maintenance as well as contributing towards our monitoring program.

We want you to engage with visitors, making time to talk to them, not rushing away to the next task. As an easily identifiable member of the Ranger team, we want you to maintain positive relationships with our tenant farmers, partners, colleagues and visitors.
