Our client is the market-leading and international supplier of aluminium food packaging, renowned for innovation, quality and service. As they continue with their ambitious growth plans, they are seeking likeminded individuals to support and enhance them on their exciting journey. They are currently recruiting a Multi Skilled Technician with an electrical and PLC bias.

Working as part of the Engineering & Maintenance Team you will work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager to ensure the maintenance and improvement of electrical & mechanical equipment on site and the rectification of breakdowns and installation of new plant and equipment. You will have Knowledge of PLCs, Inverter Drives, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Safety Circuits, Factory Installations.

The Multi-Skilled Technician is a key member of the Engineering & Maintenance Team and performs a critical function within the business, taking the lead on improvement projects and initiatives and supporting key automation improvements, as well as supporting the production team with repairs and general maintenance tasks.

As an Multi-Skilled Technician you will be working on a rotating day shift pattern of 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm rotating on a weekly basis, to:

  • Work with all members of the team to diagnose ongoing electrical and mechanical machine issues and determine how to correct and improve them. Removing any faults in a timely manner.
  • Determine solutions using schematics / drawings, repair manuals or parts catalogues as necessary
  • Evaluate, design, plan and implement improvements to equipment
  • Work from schedules and production plans to ensure project deadlines are identified and achieved
  • Liaise with internal and external personnel in order to purchase necessary parts and equipment to complete required activities
  • Operate with a focus on providing high levels of service and response times
  • Carry out Fault Finding and Diagnosis of machinery and equipment breakdowns, including electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic/mechanical faults
  • Comply with all Electrical legislation and document your actions accordingly
  • Maintain written records of all breakdowns and repairs allowing for analysis and compliance with ISO 9000 standards
  • Ensure and maintain a safe working environment by adherence to HSE requirements
  • Complete Hazard Tags where required
  • Support continuous improvement activities and initiatives
  • Ensure housekeeping within work area is maintained at the highest level ensuring adherence to BRC accreditation and standards at all times
  • Act as a valuable member of the Engineering Team, able to offer informative input to all Engineering / Production Improvement / Continuous Improvement and Cost Down Activities
  • To carry out or assist with any duties as deemed necessary in connection with the business

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Fully Qualified Electrician
  • Practical work experience in electrical / mechanical maintenance
  • Understanding of H&S requirements and key principles
  • Ability to read relevant drawings/schematics
  • Knowledge of PLCs, Inverter Drives, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Safety Circuits, Factory Installations
  • Understanding of power press and associated regulations
  • Able to read and interpret documents i.e. Safety Rules, Operating instructions
  • Able to work with motors, gearboxes, sensors, switches, heating elements and robotics
  • Manufacturing environment background
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Flexible approach in order to meet business and departmental requirements
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Able to work on own initiative and manage own priorities and time constraints
