As an Assistant Area Officer, you will get £15.17p/h.

Typical Working hours as an Assistant Area Officer:

Monday to Friday - 9am until 5:30pm

Your Role as an Assistant Area Officer:

  • Asist with the management of a team of Council and Agency staff responsible for the maintenance of public open spaces, play areas, outdoor facilities, cemeteries or allotments to ensure that the area(s) are as safe as possible and attractive to use.
  • Assist with the effective allocation and management of resources in the relevant geographical or functional area of responsibility including plant and equipment, people and materials.
  • Assist in the maintenance of effective records including timesheets, tick sheets, training records, RAMIS inspections etc.
  • Assist with inductions, manual handling and any other appropriate training in the workplace as directed by the Divisional Management Team.
  • Assist in the development of the annual Service Improvement Plan (SIP) plus the implementation of any savings agreed as part of the Medium Term Financial Planning process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Authorising timesheets within the required timescale.
  • Dealing with issues of non-performance.
  • Authorising requests for annual leave, flexi etc.
  • Allocating, planning and co-ordinating daily work programmes and rotas.
  • Undertaking regular health and safety inspections and ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures.
  • Arranging and undertaking training and workforce development.
  • Ensuring staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE:

  • QUALIFICATIONS 5 GCSEs or Relevant Level 2 qualification or equivalent level of qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework.
  • Manual Handling qualification
  • IOSH Managing Safely Course or equivalent Level 2 qualification (or working towards or achieved within 12 months of appointment.
  • Working towards or achieved a Level 3 or 4 qualification in leadership and management. For example ILM Level 3 or 4.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • A sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • A basic knowledge of legislation pertaining to the management of playgrounds.
  • A sound knowledge of Parks Operations and key methods of service delivery.
  • A sound knowledge of legislation pertaining to the management of burial grounds.

SKILLS:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to plan organise and prioritise own time and that of others.
  • Ability to make sound decisions.
  • Effective team management skills.
  • IT skills (Outlook, Excel, Word etc.).
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of activities concurrently.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive situations in a caring and sympathetic manner.
  • Welsh language skills.
  • Financial skills, able to manage a budget.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of dealing with the public in a service delivery environment.
  • Experience in managing a team.
  • Previous experience in a local authority environment.

OTHER:

  • Full UK (category B) driving licence in order to drive Council owned vehicles e.g. cars, vans etc.
  • Ability to travel around the county borough on a daily basis.
  • Must be flexible and able to work unsociable hours, weekends and bank holidays both in emergency situations or where tasks relevant to the post demand.
