SSE Energy Solutions (SSE Energy Supply Limited) is the face of SSE to our customers in providing leading energy supply and B2B services in GB. Internally it is identified as SSE Business Energy.

What is the Role?

As the Head of Commercial Operations, you'll be at the forefront of our business, ensuring excellence and compliance in crucial operational domains.

Assurance and Regulatory Change:
Your leadership will ensure Business Energy meets its supply licence obligations and adheres to industry codes and legislation. You'll guide our ARC team in protecting the business, supporting regulatory changes, and driving performance. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering accurate and timely regulatory reporting.
  • Leading the implementation of regulatory changes.
  • Collaborating with corporate partners to influence regulatory and political consultations, achieving favorable outcomes for SSE.
  • Managing e-learning, Anti-Financial Crime reporting, Data Protection compliance, risk management, and liaison with central compliance and audit teams.

Credit Risk:
Overseeing a customer base of approximately 200,000 with around 380,000 supply points, you'll ensure we assess the creditworthiness and risk profile of customers effectively. Your team will manage credit insurance relationships, third-party vetting, and handle customer insolvencies.

Commissions and Commercial Contracts:
You will manage significant financial operations, including over £50 million in payments to Third Party Intermediaries annually. Ensuring all TPIs are on suitable and up-to-date terms and conditions, you'll oversee the administration of each account. Your team will provide commercial contract management expertise, supporting sales negotiations and general commercial support, including supplier governance and acting as the primary legal interface.

To excel in this role, you need:

  • Extensive experience in management, reporting, and navigating complex regulatory environments.
  • Deep commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and assurance processes.

What do I need?

Business Knowledge

  • Knowledge and experience of the Energy sector or similar regulated industries, ideally B2B energy supply and solutions.
  • Knowledge and awareness of the Regulatory and Legislative obligations applicable to an energy supply organisation.
  • Knowledge of the Commercial contracts terms and conditions and legislation.
  • Knowledge of best practice assurance, risk and compliance standards.

Essential Functional / Technical Skills

  • Holder of relevant degree(s), qualifications or suitable business experience.
  • Holder of professional qualification in contracts, finance and/or risk/assurance or demonstrable experience at a senior management level.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and software.
