Long- Term teachers have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced family liaison officer to join the schools pastoral and safeguarding team. You will be working in a vibrant provision situated near the Forest of Dean. The school supports just under 150 pupils ages 2 to 19, withPMLD, SLD and MALD, all with an EHCP.

You play a key part in maintaining the Early Help offer of the school, supporting the Designated safeguarding lead and forming key relationships with families that require additional support.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To act as a link between school and home as needed, working closely with professionals.
  • To manage a case load and keep records of all conversations, telephone calls, meetings and actions undertaken
  • To develop and maintain good relationships with the families of pupils
  • To provide one to one and group support for parents
  • To pro actively provide information, explanation, guidance and signposting about local agencies, services and organisations to parents, carers and school staff
  • To support families with completion of forms - e.g. transport application, DLA, free school meals
  • To support families in developing a range of strategies and interventions to complement those used in school.
  • To attend, convene or support the co-ordination of relevant multi agency meetings (this may include setting agenda, organising invitations, taking minutes and drawing up action plans)
  • To attend meetings as relevant and feedback to the Senior Leadership Team and other professionals as appropriate
  • To attend pupils' annual review/ Education, Health and Care Plan meetings as appropriate and offer advice and information to parents
  • To organise regular parents' groups, including opportunities for parents to meet with professionals from health or social care or other agencies
  • To facilitate, lead or organise workshops and training for parents.
  • To organise information events from other agencies
  • To contact charities or signpost parents to charities for funding of specific equipment
  • To liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To develop work and the FLW role in line with priorities in the school development plan To participate in the school's staff development programme, identify own training needs in conjunction with the pastoral lead and take responsibility for own continued professional development
  • To observe all school policies, including Safeguarding/Child Protection, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Physical Intervention, Behaviour, Confidentiality and Acceptable Usage
  • To undergo training to act as a deputy designated safeguarding lead alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • To establish a rapport with pupils to help develop their social, emotional, physical and intellectual potential.
  • To organise, plan deliver and evidence suitable interventions, such as ELSA, Therabuild, sessions with pupils who require emotional support to demonstrate impact of intervention.

About you:

We are looking for someone who is dedicated, conscientious and caring, someone who is able to use initiative, but enjoys being part of a team. You will must have at least 2 years experience within the field, in addition to a strong understanding of specialist education.

Essential that you:

  • NNEB, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or equivalent (or commenced studying for the above qualification)
  • Worked with children and families.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience of working with multi agency professionals
  • Experience of making and maintaining records
  • Knowledge of organisations and groups that are available to support families. Awareness of SEN legislation
  • Ability to prioritise, plan and organise own workload and work on own initiative
  • ICT literate and able to log own actions
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to deal calmly with challenging situations
