Stockport Council are looking for a Communications Manager to support the development of strategic communications campaigns and messaging for various services and directorates. This role involves supporting senior leadership and managing a team of Communication Officers.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Support the Assistant Director for Communications, the Operational Head of Marketing and Communications, and the Head of News, Media and Publications.
- Manage and delegate work to Communication Officers, ensuring alignment with the annual communication plan.
- Shape strategic communications and recommend actions to produce effective communication for different purposes and target audiences.
- Create high-quality written materials, including articles, blogs, news releases, and social media copy for cabinet members and the Corporate Leadership Team (CLT).
- Provide strategic advice to senior leaders and teams across the council to deliver high-quality communication in a timely, appropriate, and consistent manner.
- Plan and lead the creation, design, implementation, and evaluation of compelling external communication campaigns, content, and engagement events for your directorate.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a communications role, preferably within a public sector or council environment.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to advise senior leaders and shape communication strategies.
- Experience in planning and executing communication campaigns and events.
