We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to cover maternity leave at a special educational needs (SEN) school in Ealing, catering to primary-aged students. This role is ideal for a compassionate individual with experience in teaching children with severe learning difficulties and autism, including those with high sensory needs, non-verbal communication, and behaviours that may challenge.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Deliver tailored education to primary-aged students with severe learning difficulties and autism.
  • Implement a Total Communication Approach, including PECS, Makaton, and Objects of Reference, to support non-verbal students.
  • Create a safe, nurturing environment that is responsive to each child's sensory needs and learning styles.
  • Develop individualised learning plans and assess students' progress, adapting teaching methods as needed.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to each student's education and well-being.
  • Engage with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress and to support learning at home.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, using positive reinforcement and tailored strategies to address challenges.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Proven experience teaching students with severe learning difficulties and autism.
  • Proficiency in using a Total Communication Approach, including PECS, Makaton, and Objects of Reference.
  • Strong understanding of the educational and social needs of children with SEN.
  • Ability to manage behaviours that may challenge in a positive and effective manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
