  • Salary: Up to £41,438 + £4000 market factor supplement reviewed annually

Doncaster Council are seeking a Bridge Engineer to deliver infrastructure maintenance services for bridges and other highways structures. This role requires a robust understanding of asset management disciplines and adherence to the Highways Act 1980 and the Highways Code of Practice. The ideal candidate will have a level 5 qualification in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering, with a preference for those with 5 years post-qualification experience.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Support planned and reactive maintenance, management, and administration of the bridges asset stock.
  • Work within an engineering team to achieve the annual Capital Scheme delivery programme for Bridges and Highway Structures.
  • Priority rank structural bridge schemes to provide annual bridge maintenance programmes.
  • Participate in consultations with stakeholders regarding planning approvals, design considerations, and environmental requirements.
  • Contribute to external tendering and procurement arrangements for maintenance treatments, condition surveys, and professional services.
  • Assist in the financial administration, management, and valuation of the bridge asset stock.
  • Respond to FOI, Public and Member enquiries and support legal challenge and third-party claims defence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Level 5 qualification in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience in highways structures design and maintenance.
  • Proven track record in a complex, customer-focused environment and within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in implementing and monitoring performance management systems.
  • Experience in the preparation of tenders, quotations, and contracts.
  • Ability to work corporately, across boundaries, and with external partners.
  • Effective programme and project management skills.
  • Experience working within set budgets.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Significant knowledge in bridge maintenance management and inspection.
  • Detailed technical knowledge in relation to bridges & other highway structures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Highways Act 1980 and the Highways Code of Practice.
