Service Care is recruiting on behalf of British Transport Police (BTP) for 12 dedicated detectives to join our team on a full-time, long-term contract. These roles are essential in supporting our mission to investigate and solve serious and complex crimes, with a particular focus on Robberies and Sexual Offences within BTP jurisdiction. This role, based at London Bridge, will be led by a Detective Sergeant (DS)

Role Purpose
The Investigator utilises a range of appropriate investigative approaches to gather material, placing the victim at the centre of all actions and decisions, to safely and effectively investigate serious and complex crimes. The primary focus will be on Robberies and Sexual Offences within BTP jurisdiction. This role, based at London Bridge, will be led by a Detective Sergeant (DS) and may require working overtime, which will be compensated at an agreed rate.

Key Accountability's

  • Collaborate: Liaise and work with other investigators, specialists, and managers to establish and use appropriate methods for gathering material. Develop procedures to turn material into intelligence or evidence for investigations into Robberies and Sexual Offences.
  • Collect and Gather: Gather material, intelligence, and evidence from various sources appropriate to the investigation's serious and complex nature. Record and retain evidence in a format that is evidentially admissible to support the investigative process.
  • Interviewing: Interview witnesses and suspects to gather all required information, intelligence, and evidence in line with PIP2 investigative standards. Generate further lines of enquiry to bring offenders to justice.
  • Victim Support: Provide appropriate support for victims during an investigation. Complete risk assessments, formulate victim strategies as needed, and work with the Public Protection and Vulnerability Unit to ensure victim safety and wellbeing.
  • Analysis and Evaluation: Carry out analysis, assess evidence, and evaluate material generated by the investigation of Robbery and Sexual Offences crimes to identify offenders.
  • Evidence Handling: Ensure all material, including exhibits from serious and complex crimes, is seized, examined, and retained per legislation and policy.
  • Safeguarding: Respond to safeguarding concerns and manage risk effectively.

Specific Accountability's

  • Hold a valid UK driving license.
  • Liaise with partner agencies.
  • Obtain statements and provide personal statements when needed.
  • View and request CCTV footage.
  • Submit forensic material.
  • Conduct CCTV trawls.
  • Submit intelligence and safeguarding reports.
  • Contact and update victims regularly.
  • Conduct house-to-house enquiries.
  • Update actions on shared systems.
  • Perform other investigative actions as directed by the DS.

Desirable Experience and Knowledge

  • PIP2 trained
  • VRI trained
  • Knowledge of Niche
  • Experience in investigating robbery and sexual offences
