Band 5/Band 6 Locum Occupational Therapist - Wheelchair & Mobility Solutions

Client Pay Mechanism: It's a direct pay mechanism

Hourly rate: Band 5: £18 - £20 per hour || Band 6: £23-£25 per hour

Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct driving assessments with a driving assessor to evaluate driving safety and perform pre-drive physical, cognitive, and visual screening tests.
  • Assess clients' medical, physical, and lifestyle needs to recommend the most suitable electric powered wheelchair or mobility scooter.
  • Advise on vehicle stowage options and transport requirements, including hi-tech solutions and wheelchair accessible vehicles.
  • Perform car transfers, equipment loading, and seating and posture assessments, resolving manual handling concerns and improving pressure care and comfort.
  • Liaise with external agencies to arrange the provision of appropriate equipment and adaptations to maximize client independence.
  • Assist driving school instructors in monitoring lessons and setting goals for learner drivers.
  • Work with Pearson to accommodate special requirements for learner drivers to pass their theory tests.
  • Prepare and deliver training courses for professionals and staff and participate in in-service training.
  • Supervise assistant staff and/or students on clinical placement.
  • Maintain clinical records and write professional reports in line with COT guidelines and QEF policies.

Person Specification:

Experience:

Essential:

  • Post-qualification experience in physical disability and neurological rehabilitation.
  • Experience in assessing, ordering, and fitting equipment and adaptations.
  • Skilled in administering standardized assessments and clinical reasoning.
  • Proficient in manual handling and composing risk assessments.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team and developing standards in clinical practice.

Desirable:

  • Experience with complex physical conditions and manual handling procedures.

Qualifications and Training:

Essential:

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Membership of Health Professionals Council.
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses/CPD.
  • Membership of BAOT/COT.
  • Full driving license

Desirable:

  • Masters' module/qualification.
  • Training in MoCA & Rookwood.
