We are delighted to have been retained by our client, a major food manufacturer who have been on a sustained journey of growth, and are now looking for a General manager for one of their UK operations. This is an opportunity to join them in a remarkable phase of growth and opportunity with a remit to align the operations under a clear and motivational vision.

As General Manager, you will have broad departmental oversight in a dynamic and entrepreneurial food business, with the scope to deliver results through the development and deployment of strategy that aligns with the overarching objectives of the business and its operations.

You will be expected to successfully utilise the resources within the business, (people, financial, material etc) to meet or exceed the business plan.

As General Manager, you will be required to develop strong relationships internally with key stakeholders, leading as well as developing teams to facilitate the execution of your long term strategy.

As General Manager you will be responsible for developing intercompany relationships and driving programmes of empowerment into the teams to drive productivity, delighting customers and facilitating further market growth.

The General Manager position is well suited to someone with experience operating in a similar role in FMCG or food focused manufacturing, with the ability to balance the dynamics of larger operational structures with collaboration and task agility more typical with in larger SME business...You will have strong appreciation of managing multiple stakeholders and delivering results through teams whilst continuing to foster positive culture.

The General Manager will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing short-and long-term business strategies for your site, in order to retain and grow market opportunity.
  • Engage people through leading and communicating, fostering a positive and professional culture focused on exceeding customer (internal and external) expectations as well as fostering empowerment in your leadership teams.
  • Developing and maintain communications with other sites within the division to share best practice and sustain good working relationships.
  • Aligning teams and departments with overarching strategy and objectives.
  • Driving a culture of Continuous Improvement.
  • Ensuring the operations continue to foster a culture of high employee engagement, retention and talent development.
  • Co-ordinate and drive the activities of production, accounts, sales, development, technical, administration and engineering to maximise efficiencies and profitability.
  • Ensuring the business expects, strives for and achieves A grade standards with regards quality.
  • Maintaining and championing a positive culture and focus on H&S in all operations.
  • Delivering CI improvements to the overall site operations.
  • Ensuring visibility of metrics that matter across the operations.
  • Driving innovation on site, encouraging good ideas, and taking action to realise the true potential for the site and its people.

The Ideal candidate will:

  • Possess a demonstrable and outstanding track record of achieving sustained profitable growth – most likely within a fast paced high risk food operation
  • Ideally have experience in managing ongoing growth and investment programmes on sites as well as the cultural considerations that come with this.
  • Have sound financial acumen, and the ability to interpret and drive P&L
  • Have the ability to Inspire and develop strong teams, driving accountability and confidence in decision making
  • Be comfortable and have experience engaging with major supermarket customers.
  • Be able to communicate concepts clearly to all levels conveying a tone that energises team members and others to contribute high performance.
  • Hold a degree or equivalent in an Engineering or Manufacturing, or Business Management discipline. Or hold suitable qualifying experience.
