Health & Safety Advisor

You will be working for a nation-wide construction company which has been working within the aviation, commercial health, industrial, hospitality, residential, retail and transport infrastructure industry for 50 years. You will be part of a business that promotes Safety/Well-being, invests in people, delivers results efficiently and endeavours for trusting relationships.

Your new role
You will be based on a HS2 project in a joint venture with a renowned construction contractor in Brimingham.
As a Health & Safety Advisor on this project, your duties will be as follows:

  • Preventing injury to personnel and damage to plant and equipment.
  • Improvement in existing working methods.
  • Legal requirements affecting health, safety and welfare and the adequacy of facilities provided.
  • Provision and use of protective clothing and equipment.
  • Suitability from a safety viewpoint of plant, equipment, materials and services, and the validity of all appropriate test certificates, and whether they comply with all statutory requirements.
  • Potential hazards arising from contracts and on the site safety organisation, arrangements and fire precautions are required.
  • Methods of safe working.
  • Changes in legislation.
  • Assist as necessary during tendering, planning and pre-contract stages to advise on all safety, health and welfare matters and pre-contract training requirements.
  • Carry out safety inspections and where appropriate audits in conjunction with appropriate management to see that statute codes of practice and method statements and company safety arrangements are complied with.
  • Advise management of the results of these inspections verbally and/or in writing to include hazards seen, good/bad features and overall conclusions.
  • Advise project and site management on the determination of safe methods of working and systems to identify hazards and unsafe situations.

Advise upon the production of written method statements and site safety rules and on the arrangements to bring these to the attention of the workforce.

  • Investigation of accidents and dangerous occurrences and recommend means of preventing recurrence.

Ensure up to date records are kept for monitoring and statistics.

  • Adhere to the company safety reporting procedures.
  • Assist with the identification of training requirements and subsequent training for all levels of employees; monitor recording of such training.
  • Suggest methods and aids to promote awareness of injury prevention and damage control.
  • Keep in contact with official professional bodies involved with safety at work.
  • Keep up to date with safety legislation, codes of practice and new safety literature and circulate information applicable to each level of employee.
  • Foster within the company an understanding that injury prevention and damage control are an integral part of business and operational efficiency.
  • In conjunction with new legislation and company requirements, up-date when required, the Company Safety Policy and advise on its application and effectiveness.
  • Awareness of environmental issues within the construction company environment and the Environmental Manual policy and objectives

What you'll need to succeed
A NEBOSH qualification and a CSCS card is essential for working on site.
