Senior Buyer – Southampton

Salary - £35,000 - £50,000 dependent on experience

A leading medical device manufacturer are recruiting for a Senior Buyer to join their welcoming and friendly team in Southampton. The successful candidate will be supporting the Supply Chain Manager and Group Strategic Procurement Director to achieve set targets.

General and Task Management:

  • Plan, develop, evaluate and implement processes for material delivery from supplier to point of fit.
  • Interpret purchase requests and documents to coordinate purchasing activities for the organisation's demand for goods and services.
  • Understand and manage risks to minimise impact on organisational needs.
  • Take follow up actions in relation to material shortages.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas of improvement.
  • Ensure Material Requirements Planning system (MRP) data accuracy.
  • Monitor inventory levels against agreed target, support inventory checks to validate accuracy.
  • Minimise obsolete stock to ensure minimum liability to the business.
  • Identify, research, and evaluate suppliers that meet the organization's standards of price, quality, timing, and reliability of supply.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to agree price, terms, quantity, delivery schedules and exclusivity deals.
  • Support major sourcing activities across the Group and develop and maintain close relationship within the supply base worldwide.
  • Asist Strategic Procurement Director in Supply contract management.
  • Assist Strategic Procurement Director in achieving cost reduction targets.
  • Create RFQ pack, collect and analyse commercial data and technical files.
  • Validate and compare incoming quotes to identify potential suppliers.
  • Prepare supporting information for cost negotiation with suppliers.
  • Support Procurement project and NPD projects by sourcing new/alternative product/components.
  • Cooperate with QARA team on supplier assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Compare costs and specifications in the proposals from suppliers.
  • Assist in the implementation of procurement routes appropriate to the needs of the business.
  • Update cost management data.
  • Attend Supplier meetings and visits as required.

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and ensure demand for materials is met and deliveries made on time.
  • Ability to work with multifunctional teams and stakeholders across the business.

Qualifications, experience and personal skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of working experience in procurement sourcing roles with a broad understanding and knowledge of purchasing and supplier management.
  • Experience in contract management skill with suppliers and understand procurement process.
  • Able to interpret Engineering Drawing and Bill of Materials.
  • Commercial minded and risk management mindset.
  • Flexible and highly adaptive.
  • Organized, efficient and detail-oriented, with can do attitude.
  • Strong negotiation skill, be able to lead and advise others on negotiations to ensure security of supply and value delivery.
  • Strong communication skill, be able to work with multifunctional team and international suppliers.
  • Preferable be a member of a recognised global procurement institute such as Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) or Institute of Supply Management; or working towards to a professional qualification.
  • Advanced MS Office Skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of ERP system (D365 preferable)
