Role: Technical Projects Manager (Plastics)
Location: Doncaster, with EU travel 1/Month

Working Hours: 42 Hours per week. (Mon-Thur 08:00-17:00, Fri 08:00-16:30)

Salary: £50,000-£70,000 + Car Allowance (DOE)
I am looking for a Technical Project Manager to join a leading supplier of packaging products. The plastics team specialises in closures of products such as milk cartons/bottles, sports drinks, protein supplements etc. This team works on all product offerings outside of North America. Their clients are major brands across the world and your home likely has several of their caps / packaging solutions already!

The team you join would be around 6 in size and comprises project engineers, product designers as well as an apprentice. The right candidate will ideally take ownership of this team and lead the co-ordination between the product and industrial teams. They are a tight-knit team with a culture of open communication. You will be reporting directly to the European Technical Director of Plastics.

Responsibilities.

  • Responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects, ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals supporting project leaders and operations.
  • Recognise risks that could impact the likelihood of success and ensure they are measured / addressed throughout the lifetime of the project.
  • Create / deliver project work plans and revise with changing needs and requirements.
  • Draw up / maintain plans and schedules for each project stage.
  • Agree with project leader(s) the timescales, costs and resources needed to deliver the project on time, on budget, escalating to the director of product development any roadblocks.
  • Promote a policy of open communication.
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of the project(s).
  • Ensure that each stage is progressing on time, on budget and to the right quality standards
  • Identify the most appropriate equipment to accommodate volume needs and economics.
  • Locate tooling and equipment estimates as requested by project leaders or director of business and product development, negotiating with contractors and suppliers for materials and services
  • Authority and provide supply specifications and agreements to assure the security and specification of supply meets with the business and project needs, ensuring such specifications are in agreement with the project team and approved by the Technical Manager-Plastics.
  • Provide tool estimates, cycle times and material specifications to allow CEAV assessments.
  • Develop an extensive supplier framework both local and outsource.
  • Create and manage timelines (using Smart sheet and Microsoft project manager)
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the project(s).
  • Debug products and components to ensure maximum sales potentials are maintained.
  • Collect and produce weekly update reports to ensure all projects are fully reported weekly, including any road blocks or areas of risk.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored.

Essentials :
- Understanding how to take a product closure from design to production to large-scale industrial manufacturing within plastics / closure context.
- Maintaining a hands-on mindset to support the team on the 'shop-floor' as / when needed.
- Utilising CAD tools for interpreting / interrogating design (SolidWorks or AutoCAD ideally).
- Mentoring junior / apprentice level team members.
- Entrepreneurial mindset as they head into their next phase of growth and look to tackle the more premium end of the market
- Self-driven / doesn't need to be told what to do.
- External management of contractors, customers and suppliers.
- Plastic / Mould design expertise (Ideal)
